Are you making sure you are properly paid? What do you do if you think you were paid too little, or too much?
When a payor sends you a check, it is critical that you reconcile the payment received to the charges submitted. While you clearly want to know you were correctly paid, payors require that if they over-paid you that you identify the overpayment and contact them to return the extra money.
If you fail to do this with their required timeframe it is considered fraud and the penalties can be high including dollars and jail time. Of course, if a payor underpaid you, they are not so concerned, but you should be!
